“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” Romans 1:16 ESV
Today Madeline continued to master the skill of feeding herself puffs (star-shaped tiny baby snacks kind of like cheerios) and that girl was not ashamed. At one point I counted 10 puffs on her, stuck to her hair, arms, tummy, hands, face, everywhere. It was fun to watch her develop the dexterity and try to figure it all out. I kept thinking to myself a song that our worship pastor wrote called “Not Ashamed” based on Romans 1:16. The Chorus reads,
Not ashamed, not ashamed; saints of God be not ashamed;
Of God’s gospel and His name; Jesus saves, Jesus saves!
Not ashamed, not ashamed; saints of God be not ashamed;
Of God’s gospel and His name; Jesus saves!
Of God’s gospel and His name; Jesus saves, Jesus saves!
Not ashamed, not ashamed; saints of God be not ashamed;
Of God’s gospel and His name; Jesus saves!
The same way Mads was not ashamed in her diaper chowing on puffs, getting them all over her and SOO happy, we are to be about the gospel of our Savior Jesus Christ. Not ashamed! Have it written all over your face, desire and hunger for it, don’t care how you look, what you are doing, be consumed with it. Madeline is happy with life when she gets to be in her exer-sauser, in a diaper, eating puffs. My hearts desire is to be most joyful, content and comfortable with life when I am consumed with the gospel. Who cares how we look or what people think! Salvation is serious. As John Piper says, “Missions exist because worship doesn’t”. We have the message of the gospel (the good news!) because people need to hear it! Let’s get to it, not ashamed! And it is good news! Puffs are good for Madeline’s belly, the gospel is good for our souls.

too many people are worried about how they look or what other people will think of them when it really isn’t about us at all.
