What a day. Today I was driving in the car and at a stoplight I looked at the car next to me. Inside was an older man by himself smoking a pipe. Seeing him reminded me of my grandpa who passed away almost 3 years ago. He was a gem. And there are some things that always remind me of him. Turkey sandwiches with cranberry sauce, mount diablo hospital, fresh squeezed orange juice, plaid flannel shirts, a face he made when he barbecued meat he was proud of, and especially smoking a pipe. I appreciate that he had a distinct personality that I remember and am reminded of. What a blessing that he was a consistent man. I teared up as I saw this man next to me puffing away. So content.
Later today we went to a wedding. What a great couple that loves the Lord. He pursued her as they both pursued the Lord. The wedding was a great reflection of her and her family. What a blessing that they were consistent in their faith and involved in the body of Christ. During the reception they had an open mic time and people continued to encourage and thank God for them. It was so fun to hear all the fun stories.
Just when I think I know everything that I love about my husband he stands up and says just a few words that made me fall in love all over again. What a blessing it is to me that he is consistent in his love for me and continues to pursue me even after we are married. After the wedding he had me pack an overnight bag and took me to a beautiful hotel. It is a blessing that my husband loves me.
I am reminded of Abraham Lincoln who said, “Whatever you are be a good one.” Not just for you, to have integrity and proven character, but because it is a blessing to those around me. And it gives me things to remember people by. Like my grandpa or this wedding or my sweet husband.
My question for you is who are you? What do people know of you? Who sees you at your best? At your worst? What are you doing and why are you doing it? Even if you don’t think anyone cares, be who you are. And be a good one. If not for you, then for someone else. God made you. So that’s who you should be.
